My name is Tim Glackin.  I have taught History for 32 years in America’s public high schools.  I have taught A.P. U.S. History for 16 years. I also taught and lived for one year in Japan and have taught English(ELL certified) to Latino migrant students.  I earned my Master’s Degree in American History.  I love teaching young people history.  I pride myself as a teacher in both inspiring and engaging you in class.  I am excited to teach you and to also get to know you personally.

Course Description
This intensive course will cover U.S history from c. 1490-1970, which is the explorers to modern America.  Topics such as Columbus, the culture of the early 13 colonies, the Revolutionary War, creating a government, settling the wild West, causes of the Civil War, the Civil War, big businessmen, social reforms, WWI, the roaring 1920’s, the great depression, and WWII will be covered.  There is an emphasis on critical reading, writing, thinking, and discussion of historical themes and events.  Various primary, secondary, and visual sources will be utilized to inspire and engage students in their learning.
Learning Objectives:
  • To learn to read critically and improve reading comprehension.
  • To learn to read, evaluate, interpret and apply data from original documents, including cartoons, graphs, letters, etc.
  • To differentiate between historiographical schools of thought.
  • To effectively use analytical skills of evaluation, cause and effect, compare and contrast.

Dr. Laux (Sara) has extensive experience teaching the biological sciences, specifically AP Biology for 14 years.  Her students consistently score above the state and national average.  Sara also directs a high school science & engineering research program.  As Director, Sara developed an immersive program for students to explore their passion for science by promoting independent student research. Her students have found success at the International Science & Engineering Fair, been named Regeneron STS scholars, presented at the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium and the American Junior Academy of Science. 

In the classroom Sara focuses on project-based learning, where she helps her students develop success skills for lifelong learning.  She strives to connect content with real-world experiences to help students better relate to the material and understand themselves and the world around them.  Prior to becoming a teacher Sara earned her bachelor’s degree in Zoology.  She then joined the National Park Service where she conducted wildlife research to earn her master’s degree in Wildlife Ecology.  She then continued her research to earn her Ph.D. in Biology. 
Course Description
Biology is a fascinating, complex, and constantly changing field of study.  Advanced Placement Biology builds upon knowledge gained in your previous biology courses.  This course will provide practical application of the material and give concrete examples of key topics covered in AP Biology.  During this year, we will study living things from the molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological levels.  The AP Biology exam is organized around four big biological ideas and seven science practices.  

Learning Objectives:
  • Develop study skills to prepare for the AP Biology Exam
  • Learn how to apply quantitative skills to analyze and interpret biological data to explain biological phenomena and principles
  • Recognize patterns in biological systems and apply them to new situations
  • Connect and relate knowledge across various scales and concepts between units

Ms.Zhao had been teaching Mandarin at Cary Chinese School from 2014 to 2022. She demonstrated excellent teaching quality in her Pre-AP chinese class and proved herself worth for CSAUS Teacher Award. Her positive teaching approach encouraged students to write, to compete, and to present constantly in chinese language. 
Her students will be able to express themselves accurately as well as understand semantics correctly. ​

Pre-AP 班将基于从Champion毕业的学生(6A/B)的现有中文水平(或同等中文水平),进行两年的 “听-说-读-写” 的综合训练 (Pre-AP 1班, Pre-AP 2班) 。
      我们的教学将着重帮助提高同学们的词汇量、阅读理解能力和写作能力,尤其是中文表达能力。课堂练习和课后作业将涉及:课堂限时写作、限时阅读理解、文化专题准备和课堂演讲、观看中文视频节目并问答、HSK词汇温习及周记作文等。

       Pre-AP班将帮助学生预备AP中文考试所需要的各种中文语言能力,至于AP中文的模拟考试的训练不包括在本班的教学范围内,将安排在后期AP中文班的学习中。

Yi Li is currently the lead data scientist from the Massmutual investment and finance domain. He got his bachelor's degree from Fudan University with a major in mathematics and his Ph.D. from Northeastern University with a major in mathematics (statistics). He was first place in the National (Chinese) High School Mathematics League and a Bronze medalist in the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad (CMO).

Course Description
This course overs the topics of Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Counting with the use of past AMC 8 exam questions. Content can also be adjusted based on the need of students/parents.
